Just because they’re separated from your body by cushioning, doesn’t mean coils can be of inferior quality. The trouble with the innersprings in most mattresses is that they're built to handle body mass but not the bony pressure points: shoulders and hips. The mattress resists those areas, causing added stress.
Our independent flexible steel coils provide the support you need and the comfort you want. Made in Germany and England to our specifications, they are both stronger and more flexible than standard American tempered steel coils. They give "wall-to-wall" support yet allow enough give to reduce pressure at the high contact points.
Because of our unique nested design, our coils move independently, responding to your body contour and weight, but only exactly where you need it.
European Sleep Design's mattresses also have more coils than most other mattresses: up to 4,649 pocket coils in queen (6,094 coils in king). Compare that to the 700-1,000 found in so-called premium mattresses. This increased coil count reduces pressure at the shoulders and hips by creating high contour. What's more, the individual coils in our mattresses reduce side-to-side motion for a stable and sound night's sleep.
Whether pocketed base coils, compressed micro-coils or super-mini cushion coils, what we add in springs, adds to your comfort.
Like all our materials, our high-performance coil fabrics* have been certified free of harmful substances by Oeko-Tex, the independent European testing board.
*FAQ...Why is your coil fabric polypropylene instead of natural cotton?Strength and performance, including excellent moisture resistance, mold resistant, flexibility, stability, light weight and quiet. The prime focus in our mattress design is function and performance not organic certification. While all our materials are certified chemically safe, mostly natural and some are certified organic we use polypropylene for our pocketed coil material because it performs better than cotton which is the only natural material available. PP is quick drying which is important to prevent the growth of mold and bacteria inside your mattress. It is very quiet and does not make crunchy noises when you move in bed. It allows the hot-melt (solvent free) glue to bond tightly to it to prevent separation of the rows of coils guaranteeing exceptional durability. As with everything else in life the right balance has to be struck between natural and functional and we believe that the earth is better served by a bed that has a long and well-performing life span compared to a 100% natural design where some components are of a lesser functionality and the bed has to be replaced in a much shorter time-span. Our nonwoven polypropylene is a chemically safe material that has been developed over 50 years ago and since been widely used for all kinds of everyday applications (food packaging, clothing etc.) It is also used in the medical field for sutures, artificial vascular grafts, catheters and disposable syringes. It has been used for pocketed coils for decades and proven to work extremely well. |
