How do you know when it's time to replace your mattress?
Everything has a life. Over time, and with use, the tools that make our lives easier or more comfortable break down. Knowing when it’s time to retire these goods can be a daunting task, especially when it comes to your mattress. There are several indicators it may be time to replace your mattress. Here are some simple guidelines to help you get started.
Do an inventory.
Comfort - do you have pressure in your shoulders, hips or back? Are you having temperature issues, needing to kick your feet out from under the covers frequently?
Condition - does the mattress have the proverbial two dips and a hump? If so, it's unlikely you are receiving proper support.
Health - if you have conditions that affect your sleep, such as sleep apnea, acid reflux or lower back injuries, then changing your mattress has the potential to aid in symptom relief.
Hygiene - we spend more time in bed than anywhere else so hygienically they should be replaced about every ten years.
Above all, listen to your body. Many conventional mattresses do not make it to that ten year mark, and suffering through months or years of an unsupportive mattress can affect your overall quality of life.
